What it covers

  • The job address, the work and the main materials included in the price
  • Price (including VAT, plus VAT, or no VAT), start date and estimated duration
  • Deposit and when the balance is due
  • Access to the property, changes to the job, materials, and general terms

What you fill in

  • Your business and the customer's details, and the job address
  • The work to be done and the price, with VAT treatment
  • Start date and how long it should take
  • An optional deposit, and when the balance is due
  • Governing law: England and Wales, or Scotland

Clauses you can switch on or off

Each optional clause shows its full wording before you decide. Defaults are shown in brackets.

  • Deposit before work starts (off)
  • Materials stay yours until paid (on)
  • Workmanship guarantee: 6, 12 or 24 months (off)

Good to know

If the customer is a consumer, nothing in the agreement affects their legal rights. Consumer-law rules still apply (for example cancellation rights for some jobs agreed at the customer's home) and are not built into the template, so check them for your job.
